How to do it
You need: A small trampette with a support bar, A non-slip mat to put underneath it.
Place the trampette on a flat, non-slip surface with clear space all around and nothing sharp nearby. Fit the support bar if it has one. Only one child bounces at a time, with you standing close enough to catch them.
- Help your child step on and hold the support bar, or hold both of your hands.
- Start with gentle bounces where the feet barely leave the mat, just pressing down and springing up.
- Encourage a steady, even rhythm rather than big jumps.
- Try small games such as bouncing along to a song or counting the bounces together.
- Finish with a few slow bounces, then help your child step down.
Form cues
- Your child keeps hold of the bar or your hands the whole time.
- Bounces are small and controlled, landing flat through the whole foot.
- The knees bend softly to soak up each landing.
Common mistakes
- Big, high jumps, or letting go of the bar or your hands.
- More than one child on the trampette at once.
- Bouncing on a trampette with no bar, close to furniture, or on a slippery floor.
Safety: Stop and message your child's physio if your child has increasing pain, a limp that does not settle, or is much more tired or unsettled than usual.
