How to do it
You need: Cushions, chairs and blankets from around the home, A cardboard box or play tunnel if you have one.
Set up three or four simple stations in a soft, clear space: something to crawl under (a blanket over two chairs), something to climb over (sofa cushions), something to go around (a chair), and something to crawl through (a box or tunnel). Leave clear space between the stations.
- Walk your child through the course once slowly, naming each station.
- Let your child crawl under the blanket, keeping their tummy just off the floor.
- Help them climb over the cushion pile and step down safely on the other side.
- Have them crawl through the box or tunnel, then weave around the chair.
- Repeat the whole course a few times, changing the order or adding a station your child suggests.
Form cues
- Your child moves an arm and the opposite knee together when crawling.
- They pause and look before climbing up or stepping down.
- The course stays fun - your child is working out each station, not getting frustrated.
Common mistakes
- Building stations that are too high or too wobbly to climb safely.
- Leaving hard furniture edges or a slippery floor next to the course.
- Keeping going when your child is tired or upset - stop and try again another day.
Safety: Stop and message your child's physio if your child has increasing pain, a limp that does not settle, or is much more tired or unsettled than usual.
