How to do it
You need: A mirror.
Sit comfortably in front of a mirror in good light, close enough to see both sides of your face clearly, and let your face rest in a neutral position before you start.
- Look straight ahead and draw both eyebrows down and inwards, as if concentrating hard.
- Use the mirror to keep the pull even on both sides.
- Hold the frown for a few seconds.
- Slowly relax your eyebrows back to neutral.
Form cues
- keep the two sides even; move the weaker side only as far as it can match the stronger side; never force
- A small vertical crease forms between your eyebrows, centred rather than pulled to one side.
- Your mouth and jaw stay relaxed.
Common mistakes
- Letting the stronger side do most of the pull so the crease sits off-centre.
- Clenching your jaw or screwing up your eyes to help.
- Holding your breath during the frown.
Safety: Stop and message your physio if you develop new facial twitching or tightness, or movements start happening in more than one area at once (for example your eye closing when you smile).
